Nichols Farm & Orchard
Over the last 30 years Nichols Farm & Orchard has grown from a backyard garden selling extra bounty from the back of a pickup truck to a regular at early Chicago farmer’s markets to a thriving family farm. Every year Nichols farmstand appears weekly at 12-14 farmers markets throughout Chicago and its suburbs and provides fresh local ingredients to countless restaurants and CSA customers. The farm produces over 1,000 fruits and vegetables with over 200 varieties of apples alone.
The Nichols previous website was “home grown” and was no longer an accurate representation of the farm’s breadth and depth of services. Webitects worked with the Nichols to update their web presence, including several fun visits to the farm.
The new site is mobile-friendly, sleek, and sophisticated. Notes from the farm are popular missives from the family chronicling goings-on and farm life. In addition to raising awareness of the Nichol’s presence at local farmers markets, a primary goal of the new site was to make it easier for customers to order the popular Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares. Users can order summer or fall shares, choose a farmer’s market from which to pick up their weekly shares, and pay online.
The site includes an interactive market schedule, market locations and hours, and an extensive listing of the many varieties of fruits and vegetables grown on the farm (and the months in which they are harvested).
The site was built on Webitects’ content management system (CMS) which enables the small farm staff to add and maintain the site’s content without needing to know HTML or other web technologies.
