National Certification Corporation
The National Certification Corporation (NCC) is a not for profit organization that provides a national credentialing program for nurses, physicians and other licensed health care personnel. Certification is awarded to nurses in the obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal nursing specialties and subspecialty certificates of added qualification are awarded to licensed health care professionals.
Since its inception in 1975, NCC has awarded certification or certificates of added qualification to more than 100,000 licensed health care personnel.
Webitects has worked with NCC for several years to automate and optimize certification processes. The website includes several complex applications. Health care professionals can apply to become certified with the option of maintaining an NCC profile to track their certification progress.
Certified professionals may earn continuing education (CE) credits by purchasing and taking on and offline self assessments. Online self assessments consist of educational content followed by an assessment that is scored in real-time. Self assessment content and tests are maintained via Webitects' content management system (CMS).
NCC has been very progressive in implementing a continuing competency assessment with their renewal and maintenance process. Certified professionals must earn a specified number of continuing education credits every three years. In the past, CE requirements were the same for all certificants. With the introduction of the continuing competency assessment, certificants are allowed to "test out" of areas of proficiency. Users completing the continuing competency assessment are provided with an education plan that outlines areas of focus where CE credits are required.
Other highlights of the NCC website include extensive e-commerce (with credit card and e-check payment options), integrated streaming video, verifications (the ability to confirm a health care professional's certification), sophisticted user profiles, and integration with internal systems.
