Illinois Government Finance Officers Association
Founded in 1958, the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association (IGFOA) is a statewide association of more than 900 government finance professionals. With the mission to promote excellence in governmental finance, the IGFOA provides leadership, education, professional development, peer support, and communication to advocate best practices and advance the competence and effectiveness of local government finance officers in Illinois.
Webitects worked with the Executive Director of IGFOA and the IGFOA Account Manager to gather requirements for a complete redesign of the existing website as well as development and full integration with a custom member database and content management system. Webitects attended the 2013 IGFOA Annual Conference to meet informally with members and get a sense of the overall goals and objectives of the organization. We followed up with more targeted member interviews to assess specific user habits and desired website functionality.
Unique requirements for the IGFOA project included development of a multi-tier membership structure allowing for member application and profile management at both an individual member level and at the government member/for-profit partner level. Implementation of the website includes online membership application for each member category and a comprehensive member directory allowing for proximity search, search by name/organization or browse of members by specific government criteria or for-profit services.
The IGFOA website features association news, a Jobline with current job postings, event listings, and an online event registration interface. In addition, a dynamic Annual Conference registration interface was developed allowing for a high level of customization in event set-up to account for various registration options, registrant types, pricing tiers, and opt-in activities that do not apply to traditional events.
Core to IGFOA's mission was development of the Knowledge Exchange, a members-only forum allowing for collaboration among members and across member governments and partner firms. Members are able to use this forum to share events and updates, ask and answer questions of their colleagues, search or share documents.
Implementation of this project has provided IGFOA with comprehensive content management, facilitated the communication goals of the organization, and in conjunction with the custom web-based membership database, allowed for seamless integration of back office functions with a member’s own profile management.
