Eye Cancer Network

Article from catalog of eye cancer conditions

Global directory of eye cancer specialists

The Eye Cancer Network is an educational and supportive resource for eye cancer patients, their families, and physicians. Focused on multi-centered research of new diagnostic treatments for eye cancer research, as well as providing much needed patient support services. Specific goals of the Eye Cancer Network are to fund and direct research to find cures for patients with a variety of eye cancers, provide up-to-date treatment information, to coordinate national and international prospective-randomized clinical trials to evaluate new methods of diagnosis and treatment, and to establish family and patient support programs to ease emotional stress and real-life adjustment issues related to the severe forms of these conditions.

The Eye Cancer Network’s former web presence consisted of multiple websites each containing a broad range of content. Combined, the sites ranked highly in the search engines but were inconsistently designed, lacked cohesion, and were built with different technologies. Webitects combined these outdated sites by cataloging and organizing content into a single site architecture. We were careful to organize content and manage legacy URLs with an eye toward maintaining search engine optimization. The new website includes a searchable catalog of eye cancer conditions and treatments, facilitates community for eye cancer patients and their families, provides a platform to showcase network member’s research through articles, case studies, innovation briefs, and an extensive image gallery.

Medical professionals from around the world are members of the network and are invited to create an account and maintain a profile in the website’s find-a-doctor directory.
Network staff use Webitects’ content management system (CMS) to maintain site content and manage online donations for the foundation.

The site is responsively designed for optimal mobile compatibility. The find-a-doctor directory supports location-based proximity searches and pins results on a Google Map. Other site features include employment and fellowship listings, multi-language translation using Google Translate, and online donations that are processed in real-time.

Webitects designed and developed this site and is no longer servicing it.
